Kensuke's Kingdom - Michael Morpurgo

I read this a long time ago, in year 6 to be precise, and I still remember the events to this day. It's more of an exciting adventure book, and generally a 'quick read'.
It is quite an easy book to read, not too complicated, yet very engaging. The language in it is not too difficult to understand.
The characters in here aren't too well described: particularly Kensuke. He is mainly illustrated as just an old man, his features and his physical appearance are rather unknown, as well as his personality, which could be expanded. However, Michael is portrayed quite well.
Through the story, Michael Morpurgo is trying to portray life to be one big adventure. He is showing how spontaneous it is, and to expect the unexpected. In this book, it explores this by Michael (the character) being washed up on the shore of a secluded island with his dog. He thinks he is alone, but explores ways of surviving.
Morpurgo successfully sketches the look of the setting. Throughout the book, details are pointed out, so a rather strong image is created through the duration of the story.
Overall, a brilliant book, especially if you don't read often. Thrilling for the whole length of the story, an exciting adventure.

  1. Good review Hannah but I think you should be concentrating on new books that you have read. That way you won't be dredging from memory and the book will still be fresh in your mind. Next book must be a selection from other people's blogs and must be fiction.
