Kensuke's Kingdom - Michael Morpurgo

I read this a long time ago, in year 6 to be precise, and I still remember the events to this day. It's more of an exciting adventure book, and generally a 'quick read'.
It is quite an easy book to read, not too complicated, yet very engaging. The language in it is not too difficult to understand.
The characters in here aren't too well described: particularly Kensuke. He is mainly illustrated as just an old man, his features and his physical appearance are rather unknown, as well as his personality, which could be expanded. However, Michael is portrayed quite well.
Through the story, Michael Morpurgo is trying to portray life to be one big adventure. He is showing how spontaneous it is, and to expect the unexpected. In this book, it explores this by Michael (the character) being washed up on the shore of a secluded island with his dog. He thinks he is alone, but explores ways of surviving.
Morpurgo successfully sketches the look of the setting. Throughout the book, details are pointed out, so a rather strong image is created through the duration of the story.
Overall, a brilliant book, especially if you don't read often. Thrilling for the whole length of the story, an exciting adventure.

Black Rabbit Summer - Kevin Brooks

Now, I don't usually read books, and indeed, I did not pick this book out for myself. It was a random choose, however this book is absolutely excellent. Just as a book should be, this gets more intense with every flick of the page, enticing you to read on. In fact, it was rather hard to put down!
The main concept of 'Black Rabbit Summer', is this mysterious male character, who after a series of strange events, including a crazy funfair trip, and a hot gathering in 'the den', dissapears. He is renowned for a fascination with his curiously black-coloured rabbit, especially by his best friend: Pete, who is the narrator in the story. Pauly, Nicki, Eric and Stella all contribute with their characters to make this an enjoyable book. 10/10, five star stuff!
